Ok. So fellow Town of Payson residents. Why do we hate the round about so much? It HAS made the traffic slow down in that section. I think that the round abouts are very efficient and can help us. I think that we need more of the. To me they are beter then stop lights. Lets put more in. Lets not be stubborn and try some new things!

After moving to Bend in 2002, I found the roundabouts a great advantage to keep trafic flowing, especially on streets with one lane in each direction. In addition, as a carburetor designer for GM; I can tell you that it also reduces polution of the air. Stop and go traffic increases polution. They are continually changing busy intersection here in Bend wtih roundabouts. Learn how to use them and then enjoy them.

The roundabout itself? It's great.
The people that have no idea how to use it? Well, they RUIN it.
I live nearby and damn near every single time I go through it, some numb-skull drives through it at 35-40 MPH as if they were wearing blinders.
I wonder if ONE SINGLE traffic citation has ever been issued for improperly using the R-a-B?
I doubt it!

I wonder if one single citation has been issued for the fender benders in the roundabout and how many fender benders there have been? 50 yrs. of driving I yielded to the right. Now I have to yield to the left.

I recently passed through Cottonwood on the way to Jerome, AZ. At the northern end of Hwy 260 passing through Cottonwood, the Hwy 260 road now has (FIVE) roundabouts at intersections. They all worked well and slowed traffic. I like them and look forward to the new one at Hwy 87 and Airport Road.

I don't think there have been very many collisions inside the RAB.
I say that because I haven't seen any plastic car pieces, broken glass shards or spilled coolant/ motor oil in the RAB since it was built and I drive through it all the time.

The speed limit is 35 MPH through Payson on 87 if anyone would read the signs. Enforce that and we won't need to slow down traffic in only special spots. Better yet. Put in photo radar or 4 way stop signs. I have tried the roundabout and several times I have had to come to a complete stop because either I was confused or the other drivers were. It is real scarey when an 18 wheeler is turning into Home Depot. They have to swing out into another lane to make the turn. Varnish, I have seen parts of cars in the round about. You weren't there at the right time.

It's 35 MPH in some spots, but changes to 40 MPH in others.
