If you have lived in the Rim Country for any length of time you know who Rockin’ Ron is. This popular radio personality just may be the most recognized person in Rim Country.
Not only will you hear Ron five days a week playing Country Music or hosting Trades and Sales on KMOG, you can enjoy the Ron Gibson Band most weekends at one of the many venues from Jakes Corner to Mormon Lake Lodge.
Ron was born in Miami Arizona, moving with his family to Payson when he was three years old.
Ron was raised in a musical family, in which Ron’s father played trumpet, guitar and mandolin. Aunt Julia and Grandmother, Ce-Ce, played piano. Ron was taught to play trumpet by their father. Growing up, Ron played music in church and with the school band.
After a tour with the U.S. Navy, Ron bounced around playing music in the valley for a time. Ron was working for KNIX when he met the owner of KMOG, Mike Farrell. Mike hired Ron as an on air disc jockey here in Payson and as they say….the rest is history. Ron has been on air for KMOG since about 1990.
When asked what Ron likes about being on air for KMOG, his answer is pretty simple. “The listeners. That’s the only reason I’m here.”
