Johnny Vela

John is a 25 year old father of two beautiful children.  John Moved to Payson at the age of 12 with his twin brother Joey older brother Randy and younger sister Maggie, and his Parents Cindy and Ray. He was a student at Payson High School where he played football for the Longhorns and was part of their State Championship team. He moved to Phoenix at the age of 19 where he decided it was time to start living his dream.

He had heard about The Academy of Radio and TV  Broadcasting and decided to give them a look. He was hooked ever since he enrolled in the Academy and received a degree in broadcasting and found his first job in radio at a small political am station called KFNX news talk radio where he started working weekend overnights as a board operator. The station noticed shortly after his hire that John was a very fast learner and passionate about his work and quickly moved him up to live prime time shows working with Phoenix radio legends like Bob Moahn, John Dayle, and a new fast growing show - The Mike Newcomb Show. John Eventually became a producer/Co-Host on The Newcomb show and moved over to his second station KXXT Air America Phoenix where the show was voted "Best in Phoenix" by the Phoenix New Times. John was also working for 100.7 KSLX at the time. After KXXT was sold to another company and the format changed, John continued to work for KSLX and served tables at local restaurants.

John then got another break and was hired on at CBS Radio working for the new FM Talk Station 101.5 Free Fm doing weekend air shifts. John quickly moved up there as well locally producing the syndicated talk show The Tom Leykis Show and The Frosty, Heidi, and Frank show. The Program Director for sister station KMLE Country 108 had listened to John a few times and asked if he would like to do some work over at his station from time to time. John started filling in on a regular basis at KMLE and even sat in the chair for Dave Pratt.

After about a year with CBS, 101.5 flipped formats and John put in his resignation and started just doing fill  in work for KMLE and went into business with his older brother Randy as a Club DJ/Karaoke Host around Phoenix, which brought John back to Payson where he started DJing at the Buffalo Bar two nights a week. The two nights turned into three (Thursday, Friday, and Saturday) and he eventually picked up Sundays at Kelly's Bar in Star Valley. This is what made John decide to move back to Payson, where he eventually came down to KMOG - his hometown station - the station he listened to Rockin' Ron do Trades and Sales when he was growing up. And the station that is partly responsible for his radio career choice.

John can be found weekly hosting Karaoke at The Buffalo Bar on Thursday Nights from 9pm-2am and playing the best DJ music Friday and Saturday nights from 9pm-2am and on Sundays at Kelly's in Star Valley from 4pm-8pm, as well as Wednesday at Kelly's from 8pm-Midnight.
